The intent of the family resource center is to enhance students' abilities to succeed in school by assisting the students and families in meeting basic needs. This is done by providing community services at the centers or by linking families to necessary agencies. All children (and their families) enrolled in Barry Hahn Primary School or David T. Wilson Elementary School may use the center's services, regardless of the income of the family.

KERAlot II, the Family Resource Center serves both Barry Hahn Primary and David T. Wilson Elementary. There are  offices at both schools. It is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. The center has a local advisory council comprised of school personnel, parents of students in both schools, and community representatives. The advisory council meets regularly to discuss and plan the events of the center. Services offered by the Family Resource Center are: information and referrals to community resources, child care referrals, health care referrals, family fun activities, after-school programs, counseling referrals, parent classes and workshops, referrals to GED Program, and assistance with uniforms and school supplies.

KERAlot II is proud of the many services it can provide for the students and parents of Barry Hahn Primary and David T. Wilson Elementary. We look forward to working with you to make all of our students successful in their school year!

You may contact our office by calling 270-422-7545 (BHP) or 270-422-7540 (DTW), or emailing kara.popham@meade.kyschools.us.

School Readiness

"School Readiness means that each child enters school ready to engage in and benefit from early learning experiences that best promote the child's success. Families, early care and education providers, school staff, and community partners must work together to provide environments and developmental experiences that promote growth and learning to ensure that all children enter school eager and excited to learn." (Kentucky Governor's Office of Early Childhood)

  • For children younger than 18 moths, avoid use of screen media other than video chatting.

  • Parents of children 10 to 24 months of age who want to introduce digital media should choose high-quality programming, and watch it with their children to help them understand what they're seeing.

  • For children ages 2 to 5 years, limit screen use to 1 hour per day of high-quality programs. Parents should co-view media with children to help them understand what they are seeing and apply it to the world around them.

  • For children ages 6 and older, place consistent limits on the time spent using media, and the types of media, and make sure media does not take the place of adequate sleep, physical activity and other behaviors essential to health.

  • Designate media-free times together, such as dinner or drivie, as well as media-free locations at home, such as bedrooms.

  • Have ongoing communication about online citizenship and safety, including treating others with respect online and offline.

The Family Media Use Plan tool available on HealthyChildren.org is a great tool to help parents plan for their families' screen time.
