In an exciting announcement made during the Opening Day Ceremonies on August 5th, Meade County Schools proudly recognized Mrs. Rachel Sermonis, a 4th Grade Teacher at David T. Wilson Elementary, as the 2024 Teacher of the Year.
As she celebrates her 20th year as an educator, Mrs. Sermonis continues to make a profound impact in the classroom. She was nominated by a parent of one of her former students who shared, "Mrs. Sermonis goes above and beyond to make every single student in her classroom feel special. She is a thorough teacher, leader, and outstanding person in general. Every student I have met has had nothing but positive things to say about her. She’s a positive representation of our schools and community."
Known for her exceptional communication skills and collaborative spirit, Mrs. Sermonis creates a classroom environment where every student feels valued and motivated to succeed. Her ability to build strong relationships with both students and parents has made a lasting impact on the lives she touches. Whether through innovative teaching methods, engaging lessons, or her dedication to ensuring all students are included and supported, Mrs. Sermonis exemplifies the best of what it means to be an educator.
Rikki Hanger, Elementary Instructional Coordinator for Meade County Schools, remarked, "Rachel Sermonis' love for public education and her deep care for each student she teaches are truly inspiring. She lives out our 'Students First, Team Always' Standards of Practice every day, reflecting the core values we strive for in Meade County Schools."
Mrs. Rachel Sermonis' recognition as Teacher of the Year is a testament to her remarkable contributions to her students and our community. We are proud to celebrate her achievements as she moves forward for consideration of Kentucky Teacher of the Year.
Each spring, an awards committee composed of students, employees, and parents seeks nominations from our team and community. Individuals nominated for this award may then choose to fill out an application for competitive consideration by the committee.
Congratulations to Mrs. Sermonis on this well-deserved honor.
