In recognition of her dedication and service, Meade County Schools is proud to announce Mrs. Tammy McIntosh, an instructional assistant at Meade County High School, as the 2024 Classified Team Member of the Year, honored with the prestigious Fred Award. Mrs. McIntosh's contributions extend far beyond her role, making a lasting impact on the lives of students, staff, and the entire school community.
Mrs. McIntosh, now in her 24th year with Meade County Schools, is known for her commitment to the students and her ability to transform ordinary moments into extraordinary ones. Tammy's role in the MSD (Moderately/Severely Disabled) classroom is not just a job but a calling. Each day, she arrives early to ensure everything is prepared for her students, often staying late to assist with various tasks, including the operation of the program's school business and even washing the football team's practice jerseys.
Her impact extends beyond the classroom. Tammy is involved in Community-Based Instruction, helping to set up jobs for students and using her own resources to ensure that the students have meaningful learning experiences. Her dedication is evident in the relationships she builds, both with the students she serves and their families. Tammy is described by colleagues as a person who "feels like the sun" – warm, patient, kind, and always ready to make a difference.
Mrs. Janette Schmidt, Personnel Director for Meade County Schools, remarked, "Tammy McIntosh exemplifies the heart of public education, where serving all students and creating memorable experiences are at the core of what we do. Her dedication to our students, and her commitment to making every moment count are inspiring. Tammy's work reminds us all of the impact that one person can have when they choose to serve others with their heart."
Tammy's influence is felt not only in her daily tasks but also in the memorable moments she creates for students. Whether it's dancing with a student at prom, fixing a broken wheelchair, or mentoring new employees, Tammy's actions consistently exceed expectations, demonstrating her commitment to the success and well-being of every student she encounters.
Each spring, an awards committee made up of students, employees, and parents seeks nominations from our team and our community. Individuals nominated for this award may then choose to fill out an application for competitive consideration by the committee.
Congratulations to Mrs. Tammy McIntosh on this well-deserved honor. Her dedication, compassion, and service to our students and community truly embody the essence of the Fred Award.
